MBA – a gateway to successful career
 
Master in Business Administration (MBA) is one of the most sought after courses offered by the modern education system. All India Management Association (AIMA) ranks all the major MBA schools into the following categories:
Super League Business Schools, which include Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), Delhi; Indian Institute of Management (IIM) – Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Lucknow; Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI), Jamshedpur; Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Ghaziabad; Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), Delhi; International Business School, Hyderabad, etc.
A+ category, which includes Alliance Business Academy, Bangalore; Department Of Management Studies - IIT, Delhi; Shailesh J Mehta School of Management – IIT, Mumbai; KJ Somaiya Institute of Management Studies & Research, Mumbai; Institute of Management (Nirma University), Ahmedabad; SVKM’s NMIMS University, Mumbai; Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneshwar; and International Management Institute, New Delhi.
A category, which includes Jagan Institute of Management Studies, Delhi; Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management, New Delhi; Prestige Institute of Management & Research, Indore; Institute for Integrated Learning in Management – Graduate School of Management, Greater Noida.
There is a list of colleges in the B+, B, C+ and C grades, which includes Welingkar Institute of Management Development & Research, Mumbai; Institute of Management Studies, Noida; Deccan School of Management, Hyderabad; and Bhadrak Institute of Engineering & Technology, Bhadrak.
 
Eligibility Criteria
 
To pursue an MBA degree or diploma, you need to have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree (3-year course) or an equivalent in any discipline recognized by any Indian University/AICTE with a minimum of 50% and 45% (for ST, SC, and OBCs) as eligible for MBA. One can also apply in the final year of graduation for the course of MBA. After clearing the admission test for MBA, students are entitled to provisional admission, provided they submit their final year mark sheet by a certain date.
 
Entrance Exams
 
The basic qualifying exams to get admission in various MBA schools are Common Aptitude Test (CAT), XLRI Admission Test (XAT), Management Aptitude Test (MAT), and Joint Management Entrance Test (JMET), Common Entrance Test (CET), Symbiosis National Aptitude Test (SNAP). One has to score at least a minimum cut-off point in these exams to qualify for the next rounds, which are group discussion and personal interview in most cases. Each institute has its own method for arriving at a cutoff, depending on its focused field in MBA.
 
In India, higher education in the professional courses such as MBA is made affordable and accessible for foreign students with NRI Quotas. These students can appear for the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) and should score a reasonable percentile, varying with the requirements of different MBA institutes.
 
Management Programs
 
Students can enroll themselves for one year or two year full-time MBA program. There are also online, distance learning and part-time executive programs.
 
MBA aspirants have a wide variety of specializations to choose from, such as Marketing, Human Resource, Finance, and International Business. Other than these common specializations, there is an MBA in Criminal Justice, Media, Hospitality and Tourism, Operations, etc.
