Direction is all about

This article will explore the field of ART DIRECTION and the related avenues for possible career options.

Art is an imprint of your imagination and the masterpieces have a sense of reality to it. Art Direction also attempts to evoke reality into the being with the convincing set-designing to help audience engage and empathize while the story is being narrated.

In advertising and print work, art direction entails conceiving a concept (with a copywriter) and leading the designing team for creating and executing the idea for the clients. Art Director defines the “look and feel” of the concept for online and offline campaigns such as emails, Web sites, interactive banners, collateral, and any other marketing material required.

There is no formal education provided to train you with the nuances of being an art director. It is learned in practice and of course requires “talent” to build innovative story ideas that serve the intended purpose. But the two degrees Bachelor’s and Master’s of Fine Arts hold significance for the employers while recruiting as they assure them of the basic requirements in the desired profile and it also reduces the learning curve. Also, after graduation, there are numerous Post Graduate Diploma and Certificate Courses provided by various institutes for art direction.

There are five prime institutes to learn art direction and make foray into the film industry:  National School of Drama, New Delhi; Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune; Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, Kolkata; Film & Television Institute Of Tamil Nadu, Chennai; and Asian Academy of Film and Television, Noida.

For a broader career perspective, aspirants should have technical training and education the subjects such as Computer Arts and Design, Fashion, Graphic Design, Illustration and Animation, Industrial Design, Interior Design, Photography, etc. Degree in Mass Communication helps you in pursuing your career in public relations and advertising besides broadcasting and journalism as other viable options.

Top Mass Communication schools of education include Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi; Xavier Institute of Mass Communication, Mumbai; Symbiosis Institute of Mass Communication, Pune; Indian Institute of Mass Communication, New Delhi; and Mudra Institute of Mass Communiaction, Ahmedabad.
Grandeur, suavity, and distinctiveness in your vision are the prerequisites to be a success today. The field of Art Direction is no child’s play and requires enormous amount of hard work and patience. It is your passion for your work that keeps you going in such a cut-throat industry.
